Teaching Computer Science

Majority (more than 90%) of the public schools do not have access to computer. Very few public schools have newly introduced Information Technology (IT) with limited computers. This access is only in the cities; not in the village due to lack of electricity. The schools that have computers they don't have experienced and qualified IT teachers as Nepal has just began to provide IT education. IT volunteers will teach information technology to school children.

Volunteer will assists schools children with theoretical and practical classes. Generally a class last for 45 minutes and you should be teaching 3 to 4 classes a day. Public schools are closed for Saturdays. If you are experienced you can also conduct IT classes to the teaching staffs and our partner Organizations .

Basically volunteer conduct from basic level of computer knowledge to advanced level. If is possible you can provide some basic hardware maintenance training as well. Please contact us if you desire to serve backward school children disseminating the knowledge you have.

Free Health Camp at School

VIN volunteers and public health and medical care team has visited Saraswoti School at Jitpur to conduct a day health camp. The camp was conducted among primary school children where 23 children of 3-12 years were benefited. It was found that most of the children were suffered from common cold, diarrhea diseases, and toothache. One of the children was found severe sick with high fever. Children were provided free treatment. Also they were taught about basic hygiene and sanitation. All school children were provided tooth brushes to continue teeth brushing. In this campaign there were 5 public from same village to get health check up.

VIN, under Community health and Medical care project, has been conducting School health program regularly at Jitpur. Health camp is a component of school health project which ensures at least two times health check up of children in a year. Major objectives of health camp were to check general health of the children, to screen the oral hygiene of the children, de worming the children by providing Albendazole, to aware children on hygiene and sanitation.

It was found that school health program has contributed to improve the health status of children and also reduced the absence rate of children due to sick. Children are getting aware on health hygiene and sanitation. It is proved by the view delivered by vice principal of the school- “Health camp conducted by VIN has helped to improve health of primary school children. It helped to motivate children practicing health and hygiene. ” Bimala Basnet, Principal Saraswoti School, Chogaun.

VIN volunteers, under Public health and medical care program, have contributed to deliver health projects to target groups. They worked in a team or by person and support in service delivery. They conduct camps, teach school children about correct health and hygiene practices and involve them in community development & environment conservation. Volunteer Nepal

Volunteers Initiative Nepal (VIN) is a non-government and non-profit organization (NGO) which was founded by a group of development workers, educationists, advocates, social activists, cultural and tourism experts, ex-volunteers and other professionals. The organization has officially been registered under Society Act with the District Administration Office Kathmandu, Nepal (Reg No.147/062/63). This has also been affiliated to the Social Welfare Council (SWC) (Affiliation No. 20910) Nepal. VIN has been a good forum for development practitioners and professionals.

From its establishment in 2006, VIN has been providing most affordable volunteering opportunities in different sectors. VIN has been mobilizing international and local volunteers in various programs providing essential trainings and counseling, which contribute significantly to the development of poor and marginalized communities of Nepal.

VIN has been deploying its volunteers under volunteer Nepal program in teaching in schools, teacher development, health and sanitation, children clubs facilitation, youth development, English teaching in monasteries, sponsor a child, language and culture home stay, environment and agroforestry, teaching computer science, Construction and other material support, working in orphanages, and entrepreneurship. Through our international alliances, we work together to help communities meet local needs and some of the goals of the United Nation's Millennium Declaration.

Objectives of Volunteers Initiative Nepal (VIN)

Education, health and environment are the fundamental requirements of any country to be developed. VIN therefore aims to promote quality education, health and environment in schools and communities conducting various activities independently and/or in association with like minded organizations.
Provide a platform for children to explore their innate talents through establishment of Children Clubs in schools.
Raise awareness of the need for English language and to facilitate English teaching learning environment in schools.
Educate and work with communities regarding environmental, health and sanitation issues.
Provide trainings and workshops for the community youths to develop life skills in them and create opportunities for self-employment.
Provide language lessons and cultural information for people who come to Nepal to study, conduct research, and do voluntary work
Introduce volunteers to the richness of Nepali culture and ensure a safe and memorable stay in a supportive environment.
Support families and children suffered from armed conflict providing them basic requirements such as food, shelter and education.
Encourage skilled professionals such as doctors, engineers, teachers, lawyers, entrepreneurs to allocate part of their valuable time to volunteer for the service of the poorer and marginalized people in the society.
Provide Sponsored Education for children from very poor and marginalized families.
Assist with staffing of village Health Centers.
Support to establish Community Learning Centers (CLC) to provide learning platforms for eliminating illiteracy and developing professional capacity of community people.
Provide basic hygienic skills to the poorest people of Nepal.
Make youths aware of HIV AIDS and Girl Trafficking and to mobilize them in the campaign.
Equip schools and community with basic physical infrastructures.
